Situated in a natural hollow, sits the quiet city of Pietermaritzburg, capital of Kwazulu Natal, and gateway to the Ukahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site. Surrounded by hills and often shrouded in morning mist, the citizens of Kwazulu Natal nicknamed the city Sleepy Hollow.

Pietermaritzburg offers a plethora of activities and outdoor pursuits to entertain with plenty of Mountain and road biking opportunities, whitewater rafting, Gameparks, scenic places and the Midlands Meanders' gastronomic and craft delights within close proximity. The city also offers cultural interest with the Msunduzi Voortrekker's Museum, Tatham Art Gallery and numerous Victorian buildings and houses to visit.

Sleepy Hollow Backpacker's is located near the University in the suburb of Scottsville, and is a hop, skip and a jump from the Scottsville Mall and within walking distance of the town centre if you feel like a meal or a night out on the town.

The Backpacker's is located on a spacious property with plenty of character that lends to it being an intimate and cosy backpackers. There is one eight-bed dorm and three twin rooms available and a large communal area for chilling out, watching TV or swinging in a hammock.

A fully kitted kitchen is available for use by guests or alternatively, wholesome healthy meals are available nightly. Free tea and coffee are available all day. P.S. There is also a bar area for other liquid refreshment.
